What it’s like to be an Engineering Technician – Water

Engineering technicians in the water department at Clark Public Utilities support the water department engineering staff with mapping using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer aided design (CAD), construction inspection and documentation, and hydraulic modeling. They develop complex CAD or GIS drawings from rough sketches or verbal instruction. And interpret as-built drawings and incorporates them into the utility’s mapping system.

They inspect water facility construction including water mains, water treatment plants, wells, booster pumps, tanks, and valve stations. They document daily construction activities, develop custom GIS applications, perform complex analysis of GIS data and help prepare maps for utility usage.

Education: Associate’s degree in engineering or related field.
